Big Bad Brolin

He’s the big bad, battling a rag-tag group of super heroes (though some lack super powers) known for their quips, adapted from the world of Marvel Comics. It’s Josh Brolin as… Thanos or Cable? That’s right, Josh Brolin is currently starring in both Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2. But how did he come to play both roles? Apparently, Brolin called longtime Avenger Mark Ruffalo, who told him that while he’d find it uncomfortable at first, he’d be blown away by the final result. It was Brolin’s wife, actress Kathryn Boyd Brolin, who convinced him to take Deadpool 2 seriously (not that the rest of us have to!). Brolin wasn’t sure it was the right move so soon after Avengers: Infinity War, but she told him to stop complaining and read the script. You can now see him in the irreverent superhero comedy opposite Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Julian Dennison and many more.

Preparation is everything! Unlike Thanos, the role of Cable is almost fully live action (with the exception of a CGI metal arm), so Brolin couldn’t rely on visual effects to enhance his burly physique. He had 11 weeks to get in shape, and spent most of his days training three hours a day. The results are impressive, and Brolin is looking forward to the next time he can play Cable.
